Ideal for couples, travelers, and digital nomads who value simplicity, comfort and a slower pace of life.

Mountain & Sea is located in Lenika (often spelled Ellinika), a quiet hillside village on the road between Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, offering a great base for slow-paced exploration of Cretan countryside by car or foot.

East Crete enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot, sunny and dry – July and August highs reach the high 30s°C – while winters are mild with most rain from November to March.
Spring and autumn bring warm, pleasant days ideal for hiking or beach outings. Even in winter the temperature rarely dips below about 10°C, and sunny days are common. Visitors in July-August can expect daytime temperatures around 28°C, with the sea warmed to the mid-20s°C for swimming.
Late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) are especially comfortable, with fewer crowds and wildflowers still in bloom.
The area around Lenika combines coastal beauty with easy mountain access. Local hills are dotted with fragrant herbs (oregano, thyme) and pine woods. A popular hike starts in Lenika (Ellinika) and ascends Mt. Oxa and descends all the way to Elounda. An old shepherds’ path leads up to about 540 m, passing the ruins of ancient Naxos (a Hellenistic era city) along the way.
Near the summit (555 m) a chapel (Timios Stavros) offers sweeping views across Mirabello Bay to Spinalonga.
This full route is about 10 km and is well-marked; sturdy shoes are recommended.

Other shorter walks climb the nearby ridges, or descend to hidden coves below. Kolokytha Peninsula in the bay of Elounda offers a beautiful combination of walks along the coastline that start from the sunken city of Ancient Olous – where the bird-loving old salt pans are visible nowadays.
Lenika itself is home to an ancient Aphrodite sanctuary (“Aphrodision Iero”) dating back to the 10th century BC. The exposed temple ruins are on a low hill just above the village and can be visited on a short walk. Nearby Agios Nikolaos has the Archaeological Museum (3 km away) showcasing finds from around the region. South of the town lies the hilltop ruins of Ancient Lato, a Doric city-state from the classical era.
To the north, Elounda is built on the site of Αncient Olous. Opposite Plaka (reachable by boat from Elounda harbour) is Spinalonga Island, a dramatic Venetian fortress and former leper colony.
Within Agios Nikolaos center, Lake Voulismeni is a scenic spot with local myths, and the small Folklore Museum offers insights into island heritage. Church landmarks include the hilltop Byzantine Panagia Kera near Kritsa (~15 km east) and the waterside 18th century Saint Nicholas church at the harbour (2 km).
